* Copy 4 has the ms. exlibris of Augusta Laney Hoeing, November 21, 1923, with her transcription on a flyleaf at end of an early version of “Nothing Gold Can Stay,” which Frost had inscribed in a book for Helen Rochester Rogers at Meadowridge on November 21, 1921; that book was shortly thereafter destroyed in a fire.  Frost has signed this copy below the transcription, dating it “November 15, 1927”; an accompanying letter (removed and placed in file with call number: File RFA 23.2 1923 c.4 ltr) from Hoeing to J. A. Guest [April 1967] recounts the history, and also identifies the artist whose sketch of Frost’s South Shaftsbury house (dated “19.I.26,” i.e. January 19, 1926) appears on the blank first page of the volume as “a young student from Russia”; his signature is illegible.  Gift of Augusta Laney Hoeing.
