Windows Computer On-Campus

  1. For a college-supplied Windows computer on-campus, first, make sure that after changing your password, you have a working network connection, either eduroam WiFi or Ethernet.
If prompted to enter your password for eduroam do so and use the new password. Make sure for username you enter your username followed by @amherst.edu. You may need to forget the eduroam wi-fi connection then rejoin it using the new password.
  2. Make sure all programs are closed, including that you are disconnected from any VPN.
  3. Click the Start Menu button and select Control Panel.
  4. In the Search Control Panel box (found upper right corner of Control Panel screen), type Credential Manager.
  5. The Credential Manager screen opens. If you have any saved credentials, check to see if they are for Amherst College applications. You must update any Amherst saved credentials with your new password. Otherwise, when you log on to your computer with your new password, the credentials will try to log in using the old password and your account will lock up. If you don't want to have saved credentials delete them.
  6. While still on-campus, restart your computer.
  7. Log in again, this time with your new Amherst password.

IMPORTANT: Check the After Changing Your Password page for other things you may have to do after you set a new password on your Amherst account.
