Honors Requirements

The department recommends Latin Honors for seniors who have achieved distinction in their course work and who have completed a thesis of Honors quality. Students who are candidates for Latin Honors will normally take two courses, History 498 and History 499, in addition to the courses required of all majors. With the approval of the thesis advisor, a student may take either History 498 or History 499 as a double course. In special cases, and with the approval of the entire department, a student may be permitted to devote more than three courses to his or her thesis.

Do You Intend to Write an Honors Theses?

The History faculty would like to encourage our majors to begin thinking seriously about their theses by the end of junior year and to urge intending thesis writers to pursue some manner of research, reading and/or writing over the summer. To do so, we are asking juniors to complete this Declaration of Intent form at your earliest convenience and at any rate before the end of classes this term. This form should be completed regardless of your intent to pursue a thesis or not, so that we know where you all stand on the question. Please log in using your student username and password before completing the form.

Please note: this form does not replace the official Honors Proposal due at the beginning of the fall semester of the senior year.

Please email History Department Academic Department Coordinator Carey Aubert if you have questions or experience difficulty submitting the form.
