DAVID A. WOODRUFF (1936-1978)

Dave Woodruff roomed on Morrow 2 and quarterbacked our freshman football team. He was a leader on a squad that won every game but one. He was a fine athlete, quiet-spoken and well-liked by all who knew him during those difficult first months at Amherst. Dave left before completing the year and finished at Dickinson
College.

He married and began a marketing career in the chemical division of ARCO in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, in his mid-20s Dave was struck by Crohn’s Disease, an affliction of the small intestine. This remained with him for 16 years and left him totally disabled for the last six years of his life. For two-and-a-half years he could not eat by mouth and fed himself at home intravenously. Throughout this ordeal his wife, Susan, whom we were able to locate before the 40th Reunion, remembers he always remained the nice, upbeat person the Class fondly remembers.

They had a son, Mark, and a daughter, Tracy. Susan (Kirkpatrick) remarried and moved to Pine Knoll Shores, N.C.

David Alfred Woodruff died of Crohn’s Disease, Sept. 21, 1978.
