Medal for Eminent Service

Christine Noyer Seaver, a graduate of Amherst’s Class of 1981, received the Medal for Eminent Service. The award is presented to a member of the Amherst community who has demonstrated extraordinary devotion to the college. Read news release and citation.

Phebe and Zephaniah Swift Moore Teaching Awards for 2010

Three secondary school instructors who challenged, inspired and moved members of Amherst College’s Class of 2010 were honored with the Phebe and Zephaniah Swift Moore Teaching Awards. This year’s recipients included Phil Hockensmith, of Kickapoo High School in Springfield, Mo.; Paula Mark, of Hialeah High School in Hialeah, Fla.; and Paul Tierney, of The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pa. The honorary members of the Class of 2010 are Charri Boykin-East, Senior Associate Dean of Students/Coordinator of Academic Support; Jeffery W. Edwards, Campus Police Officer; Ju Hong, Dining Services Server; Don Kells, Post Office Supervisor; Frederick P. Kucharski, Custodian; Ben Lieber, Dean of Students; Doris A. Mason, Dining Services Checker; Paul Rockwell, Professor of French; Thomas L. Stratford, Custodian; Cara Sullivan, Campus Police Officer; and Angie Vassallo of the Facilities Department. Each year, graduating students nominate faculty, staff and others who have made a difference in the lives of the Class over the last four years. The nominations show appreciation for their contributions to the Amherst community.
