Photography at Amherst

The Office of Communications tells the story of Amherst College through original photography. Guided by our editorial policy, we prioritize coverage of major events and campaigns that impact the broadest possible audience, the academic community, the physical campus, and student life initiatives outside of the classroom.

Photography requests for smaller, more targeted situations (e.g., individual or group portraits, affinity-based events, visiting lecturers in departments or programs), are handled on a case-by-case basis. If we are unable to work directly on your project, we can identify either a student or a professional freelance photographer.

Photography Resources

  • Existing stock photography of campus is available in our photo library. If you need access to a broader selection, please send an email request to: commassets@amherst.edu
  • We maintain an active Flickr account.
  • The Athletics department maintains a separate Athletics Flickr account.
  • Photos are available from our Amherst in Pictures curated slideshows that highlight Amherst’s events, people, and places.
  • Photography requests can be submitted through our photography request form. If we are unable to prioritize your project, we can work with you to identify either a student photographer or a professional freelance photographer.
