In Memory

Jim Siggins passed away at his daughter’s house in Pasadena, Calif., on Sept. 28 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by his daughter Karen and his son Ted.

Jim prepared for Amherst at Loomis and majored in chemistry. After graduation from Amherst, he received a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Chicago and went to work for the Sterling Drug Co. Later he became more interested in environmental problems and joined the New York State Department of Health, where he concentrated on measuring the amount of mercury in reservoirs and waterways throughout the state.

Jim played the saxophone and clarinet in his spare time with a band and enjoyed returning to Amherst for class reunions. A member of Phi Alpha Psi, his brothers remember him as a friendly and thoughtful person always willing to help others and an enthusiastic bridge player. He will be missed.
