New student orientation begins on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, and students will meet their advisors on Wednesday, August 28, 2019.  Each student will receive a designated time for when they will meet with you, and a designatd time for when they will be allowed to enroll in courses.  We will inform students that they should use this advising period for three purposes: 1) to learn about the liberal arts and the open curriculum as practiced at Amherst; 2) to discuss intellectual and personal goals so that you can get to know them; and 3) to work with you to select three courses plus two to three alternative courses. (New students will have been previously placed into their First-Year Seminars over the summer.) If you already have a heavy load of academic advisees, we can reassign first-year advisees to another College Advisor after Add/Drop, though we hope to keep as many students as possible with their Orientation Advisor for the sake of continuity. There will be training available for all new and returning advisors.

We hope you will participate in this year's program.  Please fill out even if you are unable to participate - so as to prevent you from getting further reminder emails.  It will only take a moment of your time.
