In Memory

Les Odams died March 23, 2012, in Windsor, Conn., after a long illness. He was born in Scottsbluff, Neb., the only child of Lester and Marion Olds, and prepped at Moses Brown School in Providence, R.I. Les graduated cum laude from Amherst.

While at Amherst, he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and was active in WAMF and the Outing Club. Following graduation, he spent two years in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of captain. He began a 30-year career with General Electric as a trainee in corporate accounting, then moved through organizational and manpower positions in GE’s missile and space division at their headquarters in Weston, Conn. He ended his career as comptroller of Citytrust Bancorp in Beaufort, S.C., retiring in 1989.

Les married Rachel Locke in 1953; they had four children, Carolyn, Lester III, Steven and Jeffrey, and seven grandchildren. When Rachel died in 2003, six days before their 50th wedding anniversary, he returned to live in Connecticut, where he was at the time of his death.
