Amherst College Accreditation Interim Report 2013

Welcome to the Amherst College reaccreditation Website. This site provides information about accreditation and documents related to the self-study process.  Colleges in the New England region have a regular ten-year cycle of review by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE), a division of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC)

Decennial Review (completed in 2008)

Amherst completed its most recent cycle in January 2009, when the President was notified by the CIHE that the College’s accreditation had been renewed on November 20, 2008, and received the CIHE's Final Report.  The Self-Study Report, Evaluation Team Report, and other documents are available on the 2008 Reaccreditation site.

The Interim Report (to be submitted by January 15, 2013)

In accordance with its normal policy, the CIHE has scheduled Amherst for an interim review in 2013 and for a comprehensive evaluation in 2018. Institutions are also frequently asked to submit a short progress report, usually after two years, on key issues in the interim review.

The Interim Report is available in draft form for review.  Please send comments and questions to Rick Griffiths at ftgriffiths@amherst.edu by January 8, 2013.

This report responds to the areas of special emphasis articulated in the CIHE's Final Report, describes developments since 2008 bearing on the eleven Standards for Reaccreditation and projects initiatives for the next five years, and responds to the new focus on Educational Effectiveness, as outlined in Procedures for Interim (Fifth-Year) Reports.
