In Memory

Ed Merves died of heart failure after a long bout with cancer at the hospital of the Univ. of Pennsylvania on July 26, 2003. Ed is survived by his wife Peggy, daughter Hannah and brother David.

At Amherst Ed majored in American studies, played on the freshman soccer team and was an active member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity. In 1970 Ed was very active in the student political activity on campus and the Committee for a New Congress. After graduating from Amherst, Ed received an M.B.A. and J.D. from the Univ. of Pennsylvania and practiced corporate and real estate law in Philadelphia. One of the joys of Ed’s professional life was his service on the board of managers of Eagleville Hospital which specializes in the treatment of drug, alcohol and other addictive disorders. During a term as chairman of the board, Ed was able to nurse the hospital through a difficult financial crisis which required him to miss our 25th Reunion.
