George “Bob” Wade, M.D., died unexpectedly on Feb. 10 in McKinney, Texas. A sudden fall with head trauma precipitated his rapid demise.

 At Amherst he was a member of Chi Phi and participated in the Premedical Club, Speakers Club, International Relations Club, Soccer 1 and Track 1.

 He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in December 1943. After an internship at the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia he served as a medical officer in the armed forces in the Pacific theater. After World War II he completed his residency in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia. He settled in Paoli, Pa., and established a pediatrics practice with offices in the Paoli Memorial Hospital, where he was chief of pediatrics from 1968 to 1981 and president of the medical staff from 1970 to 1972. He was a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. The nursery of the Paoli Memorial Hospital is named in his honor.

 He was married to Ann Gray Dolan; they divorced in 1962 but maintained an amicable relationship throughout life. They had two daughters and four grandchildren.

Bob lightened up a room with his humor and outgoing personality. The Class of 1940 will miss him.

50th Reunion

After Amherst, I entered the School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia along with Pierre Walsh and Maynard Guest, '39. Following three and a half very long years, we were graduated in December, 1943. After a short internship at the Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, I was married 30 June, 1945 to Ann Gray Dolan of Devon, PA and then served two years as a medical officer on the hospital ship Hope in the Pacific.

At the conclusion of military service, I returned to Philadelphia and continued my medical training as a resident in Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. A stint of private practice of pediatrics in Moorestown, New Jersey ended in 1954 when we moved back to the Main Line and settled in Paoli,PA. I enjoyed the private practice in Paoli for thirty- five years, retiring on my 70th birthday (December, 1988) after a total of forty years as a pediatrician. I served as president of the medical staff of the Paoli Memorial Hospital 1970-72 and as Chief of Pediatrics at the same institution 1968-81 and am a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

I was divorced in 1962 and have remained single. My two daughters are married and live nearby, enabling me to enjoy my four grandchildren, ages 7-22 years. I enjoy holidays in the winter at Mill Reef, Antigua and golf the rest of the year. Since retiring, my time is taken up by reading medical texts on tape for Recording for the Blind, serving on the Boards of the Chester County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Board and the Foundation of the Paoli Memorial Hospital.
