In Memory

A mountain-climbing accident has taken the life of Cary Keith. The fatal fall occurred Sept. 23, 1982, on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, which had been Cary’s home for nine years.

Born Aug. 3, 1942, in Boston, Cary grew up in Brockton, Mass., graduated from Exeter Academy and in 1966 earned an M.B.A. from Harvard. At Amherst he majored in economics, was a hockey letterman and served as rushing chairman at Chi Psi.

After working briefly in the East for Morgan Guaranty Trust Co., Keith moved to Los Angeles where for a time he was in the real estate business and was a partner and director with Population Trends, Inc. However, he loved piloting aircraft and gradually began to convert the avocation into a career by becoming a flight instructor. When he decided to move to Hawaii, following the breakup of his marriage, Cary went to work full time as a flyer and teacher of flying.

Survivors include a daughter, Coral Dawn; his parents, Lucille and Eldon Bradford Keith ’30; brothers Allan Reed Keith ’59 and William Bradford Keith ‘61; and a sister, Mildred Drummond. To each of them go the sincere condolences of Cary’s Amherst classmates and friends.
