Ted passed away on April 22, 2014.
Born in Flint, Mich., he spent most of his life in the Midwest, particularly in Ohio, where his family had lived as far back as 1816. His maternal great-grandfather was owner and publisher of the Columbus Gazette.
After graduating from Governor Drummer Academy, he entered Amherst, joining Beta Theta Pi. He was on the soccer and wrestling teams and worked on the Olio and Touchstone.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On his release from the service, he was a stockbroker for many years and then worked for the Ohio state retirement system and the Ohio state lottery program. In "retirement" he worked for numerous charitable organizations, serving as president of the Columbus chapter of the Order of Symposiarchs and becoming its treasurer for life. In his own town of Grove City, among other endeavors, he supported the food pantry and became known as "Omar the bread man" after delivering bread to the Pantry for a very long time.
Ted leaves his wife of 60 years, Jane (Western Michigan '53); four children; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
