Access a Department, Lab, Club, College or Student Organization Delegated Email Account

Introduction

If your department, laboratory, student or College organization email account is an IT Support Services managed account, once you are given "delegated" permission for the account, access it by using your web browser. See our instructions below.

If you are not sure what kind of email account you have, contact the IT Help Desk and we will let you know.

Instructions

 Note: Users on mobile devices are unable to access delegated accounts. 

  1. Request access to the delegated account by emailing Askit@amherst.edu. Be sure to include the delegated email address as well as the email addresses of the people who should be granted access. People granted permissions will be able to read, manage and respond to email for the account.
  2. Once permissions have been assigned, log into your personal Amherst Gmail account (gmail.com)
  3. Once Gmail loads, click the accounts button in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

  4. In the dropdown list, you will see all Gmail accounts you have access to with the department, laboratory, student or College organization email account marked as Delegated.
  5.  Selected the delegated account, this will open the account in a new tab.
