In Memory

Word has been received that “Hal” Miller died last year on July 20. Hal, one of the seven “Miller Gang” members in our class, was born in Boston and attended the Lawrenceville School. At Amherst, he played soccer and was on the baseball team all four years. He joined Theta Delt.

He spent most of his working years in the investment banking industry, working with many of the biggest firms, and retired from what was then Smith Barney in 1997. Prior to that, however, he had moved his family and business activities south to the Sarasota, Fla., area.

He hardly retired and was active in many local clubs, including the Ivy League Club, of which he served as president (he had taken courses at Columbia), and the local Kiwanis Club, with a great attendance record, among other achievements. He was very active in local Republican politics, for which he was presented with a lifetime achievement award.

He is survived by his wife, Pru-Ann Lowe (Briarcliff ’53), whom he married in 1958. He also leaves a daughter, Melissa Farrington, her husband and two children; and a son, Malcolm Lowe Miller, his wife, Brenda, and two children.

His busy, active life never seemed to stop, but, unfortunately, a serious fall finally was the beginning of the end.
