In Memory

Eric Morgenroth died at the college on April 19, 1965.

Eric was born in Clarinda, Iowa, on Dec. 14, 1942, but during his lifetime the Morgenroths moved on several occasions, and Eric’s hometown also included Winter Park, Fla., and De Kalb, Ill.; his family lived in De Kalb at the time of his death.

At Putney School in Putney, Vt., Eric was a varsity letterman in soccer and baseball and was also a member of the student council, the drama group and the skiing team. He entered Amherst with the class of 1964 and pledged Phi Alpha Psi fraternity in the spring of 1961. Though a member of the Dean’s List, Eric left college after freshman year and did not return until the autumn of 1963, when he re-entered as a sophomore in the class of 1966.

Upon resuming his Amherst education, Eric discontinued his fraternity affiliation but maintained the active interest in theatre which led in the spring of 1964 to his election to membership in the Masquers.

Eric is survived by his parents, Prof. and Mrs. Robert Lee Morgenroth, and by a younger sister, Tracy, and a younger brother, William. Always a friendly and soft-spoken individual, Eric will be remembered warmly by his many acquaintances. He was a kindly person who did not make enemies, and his loss at so early an age is experienced with deep regret by his college and his class.
