AMHERST, Mass. — Amherst will celebrate its 194th Commencement on Sunday, May 24, at 10 a.m. on the school’s Main Quadrangle. The day’s exercises will feature addresses from College President Biddy Martin and senior Katherine C. Ponds, as well as the awarding of bachelor of arts degrees to 470 graduates and honorary doctorates to six distinguished guests. (The event will also be webcast for friends and family members unable to make it to campus.)

History Professor Debunks Common Misconceptions about Nazi Germany in New Book

Dean of the Faculty Catherine Epstein is the author of a new textbook, Nazi Germany: Confronting the Myths (Wiley-Blackwell). An expert in modern German and Central European history, she earlier wrote a book on the Nazi occupation of Western Poland. As Epstein worked on the textbook, she tested a draft on Amherst students. Their suggestions informed the final version.

Amherst Signs Partnership with Prince Albert II ’81 of Monaco Foundation

Amherst College has signed a partnership with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (PA2F), the official environmental charity of Prince Albert Grimaldi ’81, to create a summer internship for a current Amherst undergraduate. The internship, which will be based in Monaco, will give students a chance to work with a foundation known for its success in shaping environmental understanding and action on the international stage.
