Electronic Payment:

Amherst College continues to partner with Nelnet Campus Commerce to provide electronic payment processing options for tuition payments.  Payments can be made via ACH using a US bank routing number and checking account number (not the number on your debit card) or by credit card/debit card.  Payments made via ACH are processed at no additional cost from the College or Nelnet to the payer.  Payments made by credit card or debit card are assessed a non-refundable convenience fee by Nelnet equal to 2.85% of the payment amount.  Both electronic options are available at: www.amherst.edu/go/payment.

Installment Payment Plan

Amherst College offers students and families the option of paying each semester's fees through a monthly payment plan administered by Nelnet Campus Commerce.  The College offers a five-month payment plan for each semester, with the fall semester's first payment due on July 31, and extending through November 30.  Payments for the spring semester plan will begin on December 31, and conclude on April 30.

As a general policy, Amherst College does not handle any installment payment plans directly.

For those who desire a monthly payment plan, log into your Workday account, navigate to the Finances App and select Enroll in a Payment Plan. For families or third parties who desire a monthly payment plan, the student must first authorize you to do so. For more information on authorization set-up and how to enroll, please see the instructions below.

Third Party Tuition Assistance/Financial Aid

If you are receiving tuition assistance/financial aid from a third party (grants, outside awards, 529 plan, etc.) that is NOT POSTED or listed as ANTICIPATED FINANCIAL AID on your account statement notify the Office of Student Accounts. Send a detailed email notification to studentaccounts@amherst.edu prior to the payment deadline including the anticipated payment amount, student's name, and student's ID. Tuition assistance coming from a third party will be notated on your account statement as an anticipated payment once the College is notified in writing.

NEW: Many 529 College Savings Plans now have a digital distribution option which saves time and improves transparency with real-time payment tracking. When requesting a withdrawal from your plan, look to see if a digital disbursement is available.

PLAN AHEAD: 529 payments that are submitted via check can take 7-10 business days to be received by our Office and an additional 1-2 business days to be posted to the students account. If choosing to draw 529 funds payable by check, be sure to include the students name and ID on the check memo, and mail to: Amherst College, P.O. Box 5000, Controller’s Office, Amherst, MA 01002-5000
