Student Accounts: Frequently Asked Questions

For ease of navigation, we've compiled many of the frequently asked questions into one location. We also encourage you to closely review the section of the Student Accounts Website that is specific to your question topic.

When is the fall 2024 bill available and due?

The Fall semester bill is expected to post in Workday on July 12, 2024. Email notification will be sent to all Students and Authorized Third-Party Users when finalized. Payment is due in full on or before August 2, 2024. Students will need to follow these instructions to add an Authorized Third-Party User.

when is the spring 2024 bill available and due?

The Spring semester bill is expected to post in Workday on December 15, 2023. Email notification will be sent to all Students and Authorized Third-Party Users when finalized. Payment is due in full on or before January 16, 2024. Students will need to follow these instructions to add an Authorized Third-Party User.

when can i enroll in a nelnet campus commerce monthly payment plan?

Enrollment in the Nelnet Campus Commerce Monthly Payment Plan for the Fall semester opens on July 1st. The Fall semesters first payment is due on July 31st and extends through November 30th.

Enrollment in the Nelnet Campus Commerce Monthly Payment Plan for the Spring semester opens on December 1st. The Spring semesters first payment is due on December 31st and extends through April 30th.

IMPORTANT

  • Payment plans must be created for each individual semester billed, a Fall plan will not automatically carry over to Spring.
  • Plans can be created after the first month's payment due date has passed, please visit the Payment Options page for more details.
  • Students may create their own plan through the link in their Workday account. In order to have an Authorized Party create a plan on their behalf, they must first follow these instructions to give delegate access in Nelnet.
  • Requests to increase or decrease the plan amount will require the student or plan holder to send written request to studentaccounts@amherst.edu. Plans cannot be changed within two business days prior to a scheduled payment date.
when is the deadline to waive tuition insurance?

The Fall semester tuition insurance waiver will be available on July 12, 2024. The deadline to waive is August 2, 2024.

The Spring semester tuition insurance waiver will be available on December 15, 2023. The deadline to waive is January 16, 2024.

Approved waivers will be credited to the student account 1-2 business days after approval.

why am i receiving an error when i try to access the tuition insurance google form?

Students should be accessing the tuition insurance waiver with their Amherst College email. If an error message is received, try using a non-mobile device and be sure to log out of all google and Gmail accounts. Open an incognito browser page and retry the waiver link.

when will i see the credit for my approved health insurance waiver?

Approved health insurance waivers will be credited to the student account 1-2 business days after approval.

i am taking a medical leave of absence; can i purchase health insurance through the college?

Yes, students on an approved Medical Leave of Absence who have been previously insured under the College provided Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) for at least one year prior to the medical leave are eligible to enroll in the SHIP for a maximum of two consecutive semesters. This is an out-of-pocket expense to the student and will be billed to your student account.

can a student allow others to access the billing statement?

Yes, students can designate family and friends to access their billing statements by following these instructions.

how do i log into workday to see my students billing statement?

Once the student has completed the above instructions, log in to the Parent/Third Party Workday site and follow these instructions to Navigate the information found in the Finances App.

what is my student id or account number?

Log in to Workday, select the cloud icon or photo if you have added one, go to View Profile and it will appear in parenthesis next to your name. You will also find the ID on the top right-hand corner of the billing statement.

how can i pay the bill and what type of payment is accepted?

how can i make an international payment to amherst?

International students may pay via a wire transfer process. Amherst College has partnered with Flywire by peerTransfer and Nelnet Campus Commerce to streamline the process. For details please visit our Payment Options page.

what do i do if i have funds coming from a third-party source not posted as an anticipated payment on my account?

Notify the Student Accounts Office with the information provided at the bottom of our Payment Options page.

how can i verify that payment has been received?

If your payment has been received and posted by the Student Accounts Office, you can view your updated balance in Workday. Online payments are now posted in real-time. Check and cash payments will be reflected in 1-2 business days after receipt.

what if i have questions about health insurance tax forms?

how can i request a refund from the credit balance on my student account?
