In Memory

Jonathan Brook passed away on July 3, 2015. A dedicated husband, father and friend, Jon was one of a kind. When we met Jon freshman year, we didn’t know what to make of him. He was a New Yorker to the core, and none of us had ever met anyone who thought or talked like him. We still haven’t.

His intelligence was creative, original and immediately apparent. Jon made connections that no one else would, often in highly insightful and entertaining ways. That was part of his genius: you never knew what Jon was going to say, but it was always interesting.

Jon had an incomparable sense of humor and a wide circle of friends. He organized parties (Bavaria), wrote songs and founded his own fraternity (FDR). These experiences were never about himself but about bringing friends together. Looking back, nearly all of our best college memories involve Jon.

Jon graduated from law school at Washington University in St. Louis but knew he wanted a career in finance. Despite being a history major with no formal financial education, he built a successful career on Wall Street, most recently as a director of institutional credit sales at Janney Montgomery Scott. He established an extensive network of clients and professional contacts and built many true friendships, which in his profession is rare, and he was loved by those he worked with.

Jon's funeral service at a synagogue packed with colleagues, friends and family was a testament to the amazing person he was. His one-of-a-kind personality produced countless stories, yet words don’t capture his unique spirit. Jon is survived by his wife, Nicole, and his daughters, Juliette and Cassie.

Jon was the most loyal friend anyone could have, and he made a point of staying close to each of us. He will be dearly missed, and we will be talking about Jon for the rest of our lives.
