Steve Hart died peacefully at his home in Newtown, Pa., on July 31, 2015, from pancreatic cancer. Steve came to Amherst from the Kingswood School in West Hartford. He earned his numerals in soccer and squash in his freshman year and became a member of Chi Phi. His Chi Phi brother Hank Carter ’54 kept in touch with him and visited him just a week or so before his death.
A math major, Steve spent his working life in finance and accounting, including 35 years with the Philadelphia Electric Co. At home he was an avid gardener and a devoted golfer. His pursuit of par took him often to Bermuda and to the Greenbrier resort.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Esther Stapler Hart, and by their two daughters, Kathy Hart Rogers (who notified me of her father’s passing) and Susan Hart Wyrick, and their husbands, and two granddaughters.
