Mariana Cruz, formerly assistant to the provost for diversity initiatives and director of the multicultural resource center, was appointed interim chief diversity officer in the spring.
We spoke with her about what she sees as the role of a multicultural perspective on campus, and the continuing benefits of last year's Day of Dialogue, which brought together students, faculty and staff for a campus-wide discussion about racism.
Q: Tell me about your new position.
A: I'm part of the senior staff, reporting to president Biddy Martin, and I work closely with the Dean of the Faculty Catherine Epstein, among other members of the leadership of the college.
As director of the multicultural center, I was running and managing the Multicultural Resource Center. I will no longer be doing that, but I will oversee and supervise the incoming director of the center. I will also supervise the director of the Queer Resource Center, and the director of the Women and Gender Center as well.
