All faculty members planning to be on leave for either or both semesters are asked to discuss their intentions with their department chairs before submitting leave requests. Taking this step will help departments with curricular planning. After receiving this information from colleagues, to ensure that the department has adequate staffing to mount its curriculum, the chair reviews faculty leave patterns for the next academic year and, if necessary, makes a request for visitors to the provost and dean of the faculty.
