Fellowships, Grants, Prizes and Awards

Generally, all payments made to students that are not scholarships processed through Financial Aid, compensation for services processed through Payroll or reimbursement of College business expenses will fall into one of the following two categories:

  1. Noncompensatory fellowships and grants generally include payments made by the College to, or for the benefit of, an individual to aid in the pursuit of study or research. The primary purpose of the fellowship must be to further the education and training of the recipient with no requirement on the recipient's part to perform substantial services on behalf of the College.  This includes grants to support a student’s independent research and independent study, including housing allowances and reimbursement of thesis, travel and research expenses. Fellowships and grants awarded to students to support faculty research and certain internships are generally considered compensation for services and should be processed through payroll.  Please visit the Fellowships and Grants page for more information.
  2. Prizes and awards are amounts received primarily in recognition of religious, charitable, scientific, educational, artistic, literary, civic achievement, or as the result of entering a contest.  Please visit the Prizes and Awards page for more information.
