In Memory

Chuck Siggins died peacefully on Nov. 23, 2015, in Phoenix after a brief and non-painful bout with cancer. He was born in Bronxville, N.Y., on March 9, 1932. He graduated from Loomis Institute and then matriculated at Amherst in 1949. He left Amherst during our sophomore year and enlisted in the Navy, where he served as a flight radio operator during the Korean War. After the war, he attended Stanford and graduated in 1957.

Chuck joined IBM in 1957 as a systems engineer and then switched to sales in their San Francisco office. At IBM, he transferred several times and became a branch manager in Phoenix in 1968. He left IBM in 1971 to take control of Baker Brothers Flooring and Sun Control Tile. He successfully turned the failing companies around to become the leading flooring companies in the Phoenix area. In 1997, he sold the companies and retired.

Chuck was a proud and devoted father to his four children: Nan, Scott, Peter and Kevin. They all live in the Phoenix area, along with Chuck’s five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Chuck came back to our 50th reunion and thoroughly enjoyed seeing classmates he hadn’t seen in five decades. He also traveled to Africa two times with members of the class of 1953. Chuck was full of life, laughter, love, kindness and generosity. He is greatly missed.
