Students Trek to New York City for Immersive Program on Business and Finance

During Interterm in January, the Amherst College Career Center launched its Finance Trek as part of the newly established Careers in Business and Finance Program. This immersion program introduces 12 carefully selected sophomores to different areas within the finance industry. During the weeklong program, the group visited 14 employers, including bulge bracket investment banks, hedge funds, investment management firms and private equity firms. The group also had four networking receptions and met with 75 Amherst alumni working in business and finance.

Political strategist Donna Brazile to speak on campus Feb. 18

Veteran political strategist Donna Brazile will be on campus Thursday, Feb. 18, to present “Race and Politics in America: The Past and 2016,” at 7:30 p.m. in Stirn Auditorium. Afterward she will take questions from the audience. The event is free and open to the public.

Award-winning author Chris Abani to speak on Campus Feb. 24

Abani's memoir, The Face: Cartography of the Void, published by Amherst professor Ilan Stavans through Restless Books, is an exploration of the nature of identity. Join Abani on Feb. 24, for the talk "My Face and Ours: Views of Today's America."

Author Chris Abani will be on campus Wednesday, Feb. 24, to present “My Face and Ours: Views of Today’s America," at 7:30 p.m. in Stirn Auditorium. He will be interviewed after the talk by Ilan Stavans, the Lewis-Sebring Professor in Latin American and Latino Culture, and then take questions from the audience. He will also be available for a book-signing. The event is free and open to the public.

Columnist and Political Commentator Charles Krauthammer to Speak at Amherst College on March 9

AMHERST, Mass.—Amherst College will host Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, best-selling author, political commentator and physician Charles Krauthammer for a conversation on “Conservatism in the United States Today” at Buckley Recital Hall on Wednesday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Krauthammer will also participate in a question-and-answer session and signing of his most recent book, Things That Matter: Three Decades of Passions, Pastimes and Politics, immediately thereafter.

The event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
