In Memory

In May the College received notice that Harold Tweeden had passed away on Jan. 31. Insofar as is known, he never married and had no surviving family. Following Amherst, he served two years in the Navy and in 1955 graduated from Stanford University with a master of science in electrical engineering.

He worked at General Electric from 1955 to 1961 and for IBM from 1961 to 1990. Along the way Harold became a registered investment adviser, first an avocation and then a full-time job until 1994, when he retired at home in Round Rock, Texas, a city in Greater Austin.

Thereafter and until his passing, aside from his daily interest in financial affairs, Harold volunteered in tutoring high school math students during the school year and in summer courses. His comments in both our class’s 35th and 50th anniversary books state the basis for his decreasing interest in College affairs in more recent years. I note, however, that many of us have a number of the same concerns he expressed on those occasions.
