50th Reunion

Hopes and plans for the future:

  • Once a nonagenarian parent consents to live in a nursing home, Susie and I want to Jive in Lugano, Switzerland or Paris or both for an extended period and if the creeks don't rise, we will. A very high priority for me!
  • Cures for all forms of cancer, IDV, etc.
  • Peace.
  • A passionate desire for Amherst to cease being just another small, coed, liberal arts college albeit an excellent one! This wish is obviously an exercise in futility but from all I see and hear "The Fairest College, was a far, far better place to be when we were students at a tradition saturated all male institution.
  • Let's help Paige's horse out of that crazy snowdrift!
  • May the erotic life of Mrs. Juzwick be rewarded with a place in heaven and may her husband fire nothing but blanks on Hitchcock Field. And may all victims be fleet footed!
  • May the bigots, the racists, the anti-abortionists and all dogmatic, religious zealots of whatever stripe be exiled to some inaccessible enclave where they can hate, dictate to one another, and wage war without harming the innocent.
  • May all of us who are members of this great Class of 1946 not wrap ourselves during our dotage in a cocoon of hedonistic selfishness which blinds us to the problems and realities existing everywhere except possibly the Hamptons. The world needs our attention!
  • Peace.
  • I praise Amherst for the superb education she gave us, for the opportunities this education begot and for the priceless friendships nurtured there which have bound us through the years, enabling celebration of an exciting 50th Class Reunion.
  • I don't feel as good as I did seven years ago!

I have tried to define myself with these remarks as I am or, more accurately, as I would choose to be. My character is certainly flawed BUT who says one cannot aspire to self-defined ideals even as a septuagenarian?
