In addition to providing support for students in quantitative classes, the Q Center aims to support faculty who teach quantitative courses or who want to integrate quantitative analysis into their teaching and research.

The Q Center is part of a group of faculty development collaborators at Amherst College.

Course Support

Our Q Center Math Associates and Math Fellow work with faculty to develop resources for students in intermediate-level math courses. This includes, for example, putting together detailed proof-technique worksheets and exercises for exam preparation. Faculty may also request that they offer proof workshops for their students.

Statistical Consulting

The Mathematics and Statistics Department is pleased to announce that Professors Horton and Wagaman and the Statistics Fellows are available for statistical consulting. Consulting can involve help in designing an experiment or study, analyzing or interpreting results, or help in understanding a statistical technique in a journal article, and much more.  Please contact them to set up an appointment.

Short and longer-term statistical consulting is also available through the college's Rosenblum Statistics and Data Science Fellows Program (https://www.amherst.edu/academiclife/departments/mathematics-statistics/major-in-statistics/statistics-fellows). The SDS fellows provide nightly drop-in help for statistics students and undertake interdisciplinary projects during the semester under the mentorship of a statistics faculty member. There have already been successful collaborations in the fields of chemistry, political science, biology, neuroscience, and geoscience.  The fellows have also worked with the Department of Athletics, the Office of Sustainability, and with our Office of Institutional Research.  Contact Nick Horton to discuss the ways in which an SDS Fellow can contribute to your project.
