Students Rally Against Travel Ban — Amherst students conducted a class walkout, march, rally and sit-in on Feb. 1 at Converse Hall. The protest was in solidarity with community members directly affected by President Trump's executive order barring immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States. The next day, President Biddy Martin issued a statement on actions the College is taking in response to the executive order.

Russian-American Journalist Speaks on Commonalities Between Putin and Trump — "When Donald Trump said he wanted to drain the swamp, he didn't mean he wanted to clean up American institutions so they would work better," Masha Gessen told an Amherst audience last week. "What he meant was that those institutions shouldn't actually exist."
