Social Justice Leadership LEAP Program

New Student Orientation LEAP - Coordinated by the Resource Center Staff in the Office of Diversity & Inclusion

Held at the scenic Berkshire Outdoor Center - Becket-Chimney Corners Camp, this LEAP program will be fun, interactive, and impactful! You will enjoy all that the camp provides, including s’mores, high-ropes, swimming, boating, and nature. The camp is nestled in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts on 1,350 acres.

Our focus will be on race, gender, sexuality, and the intersections of these identities. Participants will increase knowledge of their own social identities and how they impact their lived experiences and those around them. Through story sharing, games, and activities, participants will develop skills to more deeply understand who they are and how they can make a difference and become change agents here at Amherst College and in the world.

Rooted in The Social Change Model and theories of social justice, this program seeks to build community across difference and develop leaders equipped to create meaningful and lasting impacts on our campus.

Next Generation Leadership Institute

Interterm - Coordinated by CDSL and the Loeb Career Center.

The Next Gen Leadership Insitute is a five-day program designed for first generation and/or low-income students to cultivate and highlight existing social and cultural capital in their personal and professional lives. As students navigate societal structures, such as higher education, it is important to provide the space to reconcile discomfort and belonging.

We hope to create an affirming space where students can learn to access and capitalize on the College's resources, acquire and integrate transferrable skills that prepare them for their future, and create a culture of peer support and knowledge-sharing.
