3 p.m. Introductory remarks by George Carmany ’62. Carmany is an investor in health care in Boston, the former chairman of the Tufts Medical Center and a member of the Advisory Committee on Education at the Harvard Medical School. Carmany and Gerald Fink ’62 are the co-founders of the Fink Symposium.

3:10 p.m. Discussion with recent Amherst College graduate Niyi Odewade '17, Tufts Medical Center, who is developing his career in cardiology.

3:40 p.m.“Life after Amherst: Sequencing, Sex Chromosomes, and Developing a Career in Genomics”, Emily Jackson '13, a doctoral student in biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will discuss the development of her career and research interests post-college. She will talk about the many ways in which nucleic acid sequencing technologies are transforming modern research, as well as her own experiences working as a technician, learning to code, and being a graduate student.

4:10 p.m. Break

4:20 p.m. "How Will Policy Decisions Affect my Health Care after Amherst?" Panel discussion featuring David Lawrence '62, former chairman and CEO of Kaiser Permanente, Edward Hughes '62, Professor at the Kellog School of Management, Northwest University, and Lee Francis '83, President and CEO, Erie Family Health Center.

5:50 p.m. "You Cannot See the Future" Discussion of unanticipated career paths with Herman and Margaret Sokol Professor, Whitehead Institute/MIT Gerald Fink '62 and Professor Emeritus Richard Goldsby

6:20 p.m. All depart for the Lewis Sebring Dining Commons.
