Current Accreditation Status

Colleges in the New England region have a regular ten-year cycle of review by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), formerly the Comission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

In August of 2023, the college completed an interim report to NECHE. In October 2023, the NECHE issued a letter accepting Amherst's interim report to the Commission. In accordance with its normal policy, the Commision has scheduled Amherst's next full, ten-year comprehensive evaluation for the spring of 2028.

In accordance with its normal policy, the NECHE (then known by its former title NEASC) scheduled Amherst for its most recent ten-year comprehensive evaluation in the spring of 2018.  The college completed its self-study in March of 2018, and an evaluation team was on campus from April 15, 2018, through April 18, 2018.  The evaluation team's report was shared with the community in summer 2018.

In February of 2019,  NECHE notified the college that Amherst’s accreditation has been continued.  The final finding of NECHE for this round of accreditation is posted online.
