Attract and Support the Most Promising Students and Strongest Faculty

Amherst will continue to bring together faculty dedicated to the highest standards of intellectual inquiry and instruction and the most promising students, whatever their financial need. Sustaining this ambition will require additional endowment for financial aid and faculty support.

The humanities and humanistic social sciences will remain central to an Amherst education, continuing the longstanding emphasis on analytical rigor, close reading, accomplished writing and artistic expression.

Endow and Name Existing Faculty Positions

Close colloquy between faculty and students is one of Amherst’s hallmarks. To ensure that it will continue, we need to replace the legendary teachers now retiring with equally talented and promising teacher-scholars. Endowed professorships are a substantial and meaningful way to sustain Amherst’s faculty excellence for future generations of students.
