Six to Receive Honorary Degrees
Americanah author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, national security expert Sherri Goodman ’81 and art historian Kellie Jones ’81 are among those who will receive honorary doctorates at Amherst’s commencement on May 20.
Senior Assembly Features Speeches, Awards
The first pomp-filled event in the lead-up to commencement allows faculty to honor graduating seniors, celebrating their accomplishments and bright futures. This year it featured talks by Mohamed Ramy ’18, Nathaniel Werner ’19E and Geoffrey Sanborn, the Henry S. Poler ’59 Presidential Teaching Professor of English, as well as the awarding of honorary class memberships.
First-Years, Sophomores and Juniors Honored for Outstanding Work
At the annual College Meeting, students received prizes in more than a dozen areas of study, as well as for scholarship and citizenship. The majority of awards are named in honor of alumni and faculty whose legacies continue to shape the College today.
“Rooted” Event Celebrates Graduation
On the last day of classes, the Multicultural Resource Center held its inaugural celebration for graduating students of color. Titled “Rooted,” it featured a poem by Sydney Tate ’18, as well as commemorative pins for the 19 seniors who participated.
