An enthusiastic crowd overflowed from one of the newest residences on campus as Greenway Dorm A was renamed in honor of William E. Ford III ’83, P’13, CEO of General Atlantic.

As the event began, President Biddy Martin spoke of Ford’s deep connection to the College as an alumnus, parent, trustee and chair of the investment committee: “Your careful, deliberate, wise counsel has strengthened the College in so many ways.”

Aditi Krishnamurthy ’18, Association of Amherst Students president, was among the other speakers, noting that “Mr. Ford’s gifts to the College certainly are mammoth!”

After the reveal of the silver Ford Hall sign, guests enjoyed champagne and marveled at an elaborate cake replica of the building, created by the College’s pastry cook, Carl Charrette.

Since its opening in fall 2016, the Ford Hall event space has hosted lectures and training workshops, student-organized classes and dance practices and viewing parties for films.

The four Greenway Dorms are part of the largest building project in College history, one that also includes a Science Center scheduled to open this fall and landscaping to connect the new buildings to each other and to the broader campus.
