Resources for multilingual writers at Amherst

We Offer Multilingual Support: The Writing Center provides support to all writers, no matter what language you're writing in. We can read drafts in: English, French, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, German and Sinhalese.

The Writing Center and other academic resources at the College are here to support you. Writing Center associates honor all languages and dialectal variations. We seek to engage with writers and speakers, and language, in ways that promote linguistic justice and nurture diversity.

Please schedule a consultation with any Writing Center associate; we are available in-person, as well as remotely and for email consultations. You can select "multilingual writing" as a focus in the scheduler. If you have any questions, reach out to one of our specialists in multilingual writing:

Online Resources for English Language Learning

  • Multilingual Resources for Students (Purdue OWL) "includes resources on writing across the curriculum, writing in the disciplines, and it contains links to OWL workshops and exercises useful for multilingual students."
  • Duke University's DukeWrites Enrichment Suite includes video guides for international and intercultural students. "Cultural, linguistic, and geographic contexts are deeply connected to conventions and expectations surrounding academic writing, academic integrity, and class participation," they write in the About Us section, so the guide was designed as an aid to "supporting those who are newer to the context of U.S. academic writing, academic integrity, and class participation practices."
