Pedagogy Modules for First-Year Seminar Writing

The Writing Center is developing new resources to support the teaching of writing, reading, and public speaking in the first-year seminar and other writing-attentive courses. These guides combine writing associates' extensive experience both in consultation with faculty and in thousands of appointments with students writing in these courses. They also build on the scholarly and practical literature of the field of writing and communication studies.

The following self-paced pedagogy modules are just a start in this effort. Other topics under development include: scaffolding assignments, reflection and metacognition, writing-to-learn, peer-review activities, and the academic essay. If there is a topic you'd like to see here, please let us know. Likewise, if you would like to talk about how to apply these practices and ideas to your course, please contact us to schedule a consultation.
