Biographies

Daniel Kie-Hong Lee, class of 1950, was the first Korean student to graduate from Amherst College. He majored in economics and went on to Columbia University for his master's degree before returning to Korea where he was one of the early architects of the Korean Five Year Plan for national reconstruction after the Korean War. he has held positions with the World Bank and the Korean Economic Development Institute. Most recently he was publisher and chairman of the journal "Korea Business World".

Erika Shelburne is Amherst College's liaison for west coast alumni and had already established a friendship with the Lee family when the library called upon her for this interview in Seoul, South Korea. She currently serves as director of leadership giving at Amherst.
