Fulbright Top Producer 2021-22

Once again, Amherst is proud to be included on the list of colleges and universities that have produced the most U.S. student fellowship recipients in the Fulbright Program, the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange. The Chronicle of Higher Education publishes the lists annually, and the College has ranked as a top Fulbright producer among B.A.-granting institutions every year since 2008–09.

Two students from Amherst were offered (and one accepted) an Open Study/Research Award for academic year 2021–22, and an additional eight received English Teaching Assistantships that have sent them to Taiwan, South Korea, France and Lithuania. They applied during a year of “unprecedented competitiveness” for the Fulbright Program and were chosen from among a record 11,728 applicants.

“We congratulate the colleges and universities we are honoring as 2021–2022 Fulbright Top Producing Institutions,” said Ethan Rosenzweig, deputy assistant secretary of state for academic programs in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, which runs the Fulbright Program. “We thank the leadership of these institutions for supporting their faculty advisors and administrators, who are instrumental in guiding their students through the Fulbright application process.”

At Amherst, this application process is administered through the Office of Fellowships, led by Director Christine Overstreet and newly hired Associate Director Eric Myers.
