Advancement encompasses Alumni and Parent Programs (APP), Development (Annual Fund, Leadership Giving and Principal Giving), Advancement Operations, the Grants Office and the Career Center. We work to advance the Amherst College mission, help to raise awareness of the College and its goals and encourage generosity in Amherst’s external constituencies. We accomplish this by nurturing long-term and mutually-enriching relationships with and among constituents, including alumni, families and friends.

The Annual Fund is a critical component of Amherst's ongoing fundraising efforts. The Annual Fund contributes roughly seven percent to Amherst’s operating budget each year. The money raised is used to support annual expenses such as faculty salaries, financial aid, residential life and a modern campus. Last year, the Annual Fund raised $10.1 million, with 52.5 percent of all alumni contributing.

Advancement develops and directs comprehensive fundraising campaigns and engagement activities to connect alumni to each other, students and to the College. Amherst fosters alumni relationships, creating more and better opportunities for student research, internships and service. We also coordinate major on-campus events including Reunion, Family Weekend and Homecoming, as well as numerous smaller events throughout the year. APP also supports the off-campus events of close to 50 regional associations, all alumni classes and a variety of affinity groups.
