Valentine Hall, the Keefe Campus Center and Frost Library provide quality food services for Amherst College students, faculty, staff and their guests. The main Dining Services Office is on the lower level of Valentine Hall.


Amherst College Dining Services is one of the largest employers of students on campus. Dining Services employs students to work in Valentine during meal periods, helping in the servery and dishroom. We offer a variety of shifts that are compatible with student schedules. Also offered are positions with Catering Services, Schwemm’s Coffee House, Lewis-Sebring Commons and the Frost Café. Valentine Dining Commons

The dining hall, also known as “Val,” offers an extensive variety of dishes crafted from fresh, local ingredients, which are influenced by regional favorites and recipes from around the globe. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided and regularly include ingredients such as cage-free eggs, sustainable fresh fish and other seafood, humanely raised beef and poultry, and fresh-picked produce from the College’s own Book & Plow Farm. There are many selections to choose from throughout the different servery stations, including vegetarian and vegan preparations, as well as an allergy-friendly area. Whether it is a nourishing entrée, a trip through the extensive salad bar or the fun of creating your own meal in our “Do It Yourself” stations that makes your meal, you can have the comfort of knowing where your ingredients come from and the passion that goes into making them. Daily menus and nutritional information are available on the Dining Services website through ACNutrition. The dining hall welcomes all members of the Amherst College community.

Meal Plans

First-year students are required to be on the Full Meal Plan. Sophomores, juniors and seniors have a choice of either the Full Meal Plan or the Lunch and Dinner Meal Plan.

The Full Meal Plan consists of unlimited access to Valentine Dining Hall, seven days a week, with two guest passes per semester. The Lunch and Dinner Meal Plan consists of unlimited access to the dining hall for lunch and dinner only, seven days a week, with two guest passes and $100 in Bonus Bucks per semester. Bonus Bucks are part of students’ meal plans and are active only while meal plans are active. Bonus Bucks are nonrefundable. Bonus Bucks may be used for campus food purchases at Valentine, Schwemm’s Coffee House, Frost Café, Catering and vending machines equipped with card readers. Students have the option to use their lunch swipe at either Val or our Grab-N-Go location Monday through Friday. 


Our Grab-N-Go program allows students an alternative to the dining hall. Students can use their lunch swipe at Grab-N-Go instead of the dining hall. Grab-N-Go lunch includes your choice of a freshly prepared salad or sandwich entrée, three complementing side dishes (e.g., chips, yogurt, granola bars) and a beverage. All items are also available to be purchased à la carte. This option is available between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during the academic year. Grab-N-Go is located on the main floor of the Keefe Campus Center in Schwemm’s Coffee House.

Schwemm’s Coffee House

Schwemm’s Coffee House is on the main floor of the Keefe Campus Center. Though it is the location for Grab-N-Go during lunch, Schwemm’s is a great place to visit for a light evening snack or a late-night meal. Offerings include made-to-order sandwiches served up grilled or chilled, bakery-fresh sweets and specialty coffees to get you through that late-night studying.

Lewis-Sebring Commons

Lewis-Sebring Commons is a facility for College employee dining. This facility is open for lunch on weekdays during the academic year and is available to students only if they are guests of College employees.

Frost Café

Frost Café is located in the northwest corner of Frost Library’s main floor. The café features upscale bakery-fresh pastries ranging from muffins and coffee cake to scones and brownies. It also offers cold drinks and crafted hot beverages, such as cappuccinos, lattes, teas, chai, coffee and hot chocolate.

Amherst College Catering

The Catering Department at Amherst College provides services to complement any occasion, from the simple to the sublime. While we often provide plated or buffet events from a diverse offering of menu selections, there are many affordable food and beverage catering options available for pickup or delivery as well. Catering is located in the Dining Services Office in the basement of Valentine Hall.
