LGBTQ Resources

Queer Resource Center, Basement of Morrow Dormitory

Angie Tissi, Coordinator

Amherst College is a place where queer students and allies have thrived. Here you will find a diverse and vibrant LGBTQQIAA: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and ally community.

The queer community is centered around the Queer Resource Center (QRC), whose mission is to serve as the hub of the LGBT community on campus. The Center provides numerous events, resources and leadership opportunities for all students at Amherst College. We encourage you to check our website to stay informed of events on campus, as well as to connect to resources.

There are many resources for Amherst students interested in LGBTQ topics. The Queer Resource Center located in the basement of Morrow Dormitory, has a library of LGBTQ-themed books, movies, magazines and other information. The QRC is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. In addition, we host weekly meetings and social events outside of our regular hours. The QRC is a great place to study or just hang out. We offer Safe Zone Trainings and Speakers Bureau Panels to learn about and hear the stories of our Amherst College LGBTQ students.

Angie Tissi, Director of the Queer Resource Center, is available to meet confidentially with any student (in the QRC or elsewhere on campus) to provide information and/or support. For more information about the QRC or to schedule a confidential appointment, contact Angie Tissi at

The QRC is home to many LGBTQ student organizations. Pride Alliance, Queer Women of Amherst College (QWAC), Men of the Valley and Queer People of Color (QPOC) are registered student organizations with a mission to serve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex and asexual students and their allies on campus. Through educational programming addressing topics such as coming out; LGBTQIA athletes; the intersection of identities such as sexuality and race, religion, class, gender identity and other identities; HIV/AIDS awareness; sexual health; how to be an LGBTQIA ally; and more, these organizations seek to improve understanding of and support for LGBTQIA issues.

Students with any questions about the Pride Alliance, QWAC, Men of the Valley, QPOC or queer life on campus in general should feel free to check out the QRC website/Facebook, email the Director at, talk to a group member or come to our weekly meetings or open hours. Both occur in the QRC; these times are listed in the Queer Resource Center website. We look forward to seeing you on campus!
