In 1962, the Pop art movement burst onto the American scene as a major force that would have huge repercussions in the art world and beyond. Among the artists identified with this style were Jim Dine, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, and Andy Warhol, to name a few. They were not simply reacting to the complexities of abstract art which had taken hold in this country during the decade before; these artists looked to the consumer culture of America for inspiration, transforming and celebrating the visual imagery encountered in everyday life.
This exhibition will feature a selection of prints from the Mead's collection by Jim Dine, Robert Indiana, Roy Lichtenstein, Marisol, Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, and Tom Wesselman.
