The theater and dance department staged a fall production of Eurydice, a play that reimagines the myth of Orpheus from the perspective of his wife, Eurydice. The playwright, Sarah Ruhl (daughter of the late Patrick Ruhl ’63), was a 2008 Robert Frost Fellow at the Amherst College Library. She came to campus in the last week of rehearsals to work on the production. Lisa Smith ’09 ( below right, holding an umbrella) played Eurydice. Below left, from left, are Tierra Allen ’09, Eric Swartz ’11 and Emmy Pierce ’11, as the Stones, creatures who chant orders in unison. The production also featured Peter Lobdell ’68, senior resident artist in theater and dance, as Eurydice’s father. The show was directed by Yale graduate student Shoshana Cooper, with costumes and set design by Scott Dougan ’04 and lighting by Kathy Couch ’95.
