Growing up in Asia, I completed my PhD training in Statistics at the Pennsylvania State University in 2009 and am now an Assistant Professor of Statistics at Amherst College. My professional career unfortunately got interrupted by life-threatening medical complications in 2013-2018, and I’m currently living with multiple disabilities and minority identities – all of which made me a better educator and researcher. Sparked by those unusual lived experiences, I’m particularly passionate about DEIAB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Belonging) work, and my major research interests include Copula theories and modeling for categorical data, Nonparametric Statistics and model-free methodologies, and STEM Education research. I’m an active member of ASA Committee on Statistics and Disability (CSD) & JEDI Outreach Group. I also serve as the inaugural Faculty Fellow Mentor for the CTL (Center for Teaching and Learning) Faculty Fellowship Program in 2023-2024 at Amherst College and co-facilitated the “Being Human in STEM” (HSTEM) course in January 2022 and Spring 2023.
