DESCRIPTION:The Putnam Competition is a national mathematics exam for under
graduate students. It is both a challenging and fun exam\, in which you wi
ll practice your problem-solving and proof-writing skills. Most of the pro
blems require basic calculus and algebra knowledge\, so first-year student
s are encouraged to participate. \n\nPutnam sessions are an informal and f
riendly chance to meet other students and talk about problem solving. Typi
cally we will share some problems in advance to think about\, have a focus
ed discussion at the beginning of the session and then discuss some of the
problems together and have students present solutions. The meetings will
be on Zoom. If you are interested\, please contact Prof. Ivan Contreras (t
imes subject to change).\n\nPutnam Series Dates - You can attend as few or
as many as you like.\nSession 7: Thursday\, October 8 (6:00-7:30 PM) : Co
