Can the Mead help me conserve/appraise/attribute a work of art?
No. The Mead Art Museum does not provide art conservation services of any kind and is prohibited from appraising, attributing, or authenticating works of art. Visit the links below for help locating conservators, appraisers, and art dealers that can assist you.
Does the Mead host loan shows, traveling exhibitions, or exhibitions by local artists?
No. As part of a larger effort endorsed by the Amherst College Trustees in 2007, the Mead refocused its mission to strengthen and expand the Museum’s ties to academic life at Amherst. As a result, the Mead does not present any exhibitions organized by outside persons or organizations, but rather develops exhibitions using Amherst College’s rich permanent collection of more than 18,000 objects and the expertise of curatorial staff and members of the Amherst College faculty.
Can I rent the Mead for a private event?
No. The Mead Art Museum is not available as a rental facility for private events. Visitors seeking to hold a private event at Amherst College are encouraged to contact Ms. Paula Mieczkowski in the Room Reservations Office to learn about opportunities to book Johnson Chapel or the Alumni House: firstname.lastname@example.org.
