Mead Art Museum, Rotherwas Room

The Amherst Center for Russian Culture opens its international symposium "Tales and Visions of Elena Guro: a Woman in the Russian avant-garde," with a reception in the Rotherwas Room on Friday, April 21, at 4:30 p.m. During the reception, composer and musician John McDonald will perform original piano pieces by Mikhail Matiushin, Guro’s husband and a leading figure in the Petersburg avant-garde. The scores are rarities from the archives of the Russian Center and have never been performed together.

The Mead's new curator of Russian and European Art, Dr. Alla Rosenfeld, is a featured participant during the symposium, discussing "Guro and Avant-Garde Art," on Saturday, April 22, at 1:30 p.m.
